At the Farbhof construction site, the last stage of the first step of the Limmattal light rail line was completed during the summer break. Together with members of the general public, Limmattalbahn AG celebrated the inauguration of the first stage. On September 2nd, construction started on the second stage.
GAS&COM AG uses the route of the new Limmattahl light rail line
For now, the Limmattal light rail line still belongs to the city of Zurich. Until the end of 2022, only the blue-and-white two-way tram operated by the Zurich Public Transport Authority (VBZ) will operate on the newly laid tracks from the Farbhof in Altstetten to Schlieren Geissweid. After the second stage of construction from Schlieren to Killwangen is completed, however, the first real Limmattal light rail vehicles will be operational.
GAS&COM made the best use of the new line to lay underground pipes along the route to enable further connections between Zurich and Aargau.
