Data Center Interconnect (DCI)

DCI (Data Center Interconnect) refers to the connection between two or more data centers. The goal is to exchange data, applications, and workloads quickly, securely, and reliably between locations.

Why do you need DCI?

  • Data mirroring (backup & disaster recovery)
  • Load balancing (when one data center is at full capacity)
  • High availability (if one fails, another takes over)
  • Cloud connections between on-premises and cloud data centers

How is DCI implemented?

  • Via fiber optic connections
  • With very high bandwidth (e.g., 10, 40, 100+ Gbit/s)
  • Often with encryption and redundancy
  • Technologies such as MPLS, Ethernet, DWDM, and VPN are used

Advantages of DCI:

  • High availability and reliability
  • Fast data exchange between locations
  • Efficient load balancing
  • Support for backup, disaster recovery, and cloud scenarios

DCI makes it possible to operate data centers as if they were a single system, regardless of geographical distance.

IoT Interconnect (IOTI)

IoT Interconnect refers to the secure and scalable networking of IoT devices, sensors, and platforms. The goal is to collect, transmit, and centrally evaluate data from a wide variety of devices.

IoT Interconnect enables sensor data, status messages, and control commands to be exchanged reliably in real time or near real time between devices, networks, and cloud systems.

Advantages of IoT Interconnect:

  • Centralized collection and processing of device data
  • High scalability for large device fleets
  • Secure and stable data transmission
  • Basis for automation and data-driven decisions

IoT Interconnect thus forms the technical basis for networked products, smart applications, and digital business models.

Smart Meter Interconnect (SMI)

Smart Meter Interconnect refers to the secure and reliable networking of smart electricity, gas, or water meters with central IT systems. The goal is the automated transmission of measurement data in near real time.

Consumption data, status information, and control commands are continuously exchanged via the Smart Meter Interconnect—from the meter via communication networks to energy suppliers or metering point operators.

Advantages of Smart Meter Interconnect:

  • Automatic and accurate consumption recording
  • Transparent billing and better consumption overview
  • Support for smart grids and dynamic tariffs
  • High security and availability of data transmission

Smart Meter Interconnect thus forms the technical basis for digital energy networks and efficient energy supply.

With this strategic partnership, GAS&COM and Trigon are underscoring their shared commitment to implementing innovative, secure, and sustainable network solutions—tailored to today’s requirements and ready for tomorrow’s challenges.
