GAS&COM is pleased to announce a new record: As of now, a bandwidth of 400Gbps per wavelength is available on the GAS&COM DWDM backbone network. With a total of 96 possible wavelengths per fiber pair, this results in a total bandwidth of 38.4Tbps.
This represents a new speed record on optical fibers in Switzerland.
After extensive tests in the in-house laboratory, GAS&COM has released the new cards and started to equip the most heavily loaded routes with the new technology. The cards used allow 2 x 400 Gbps, which represents a new milestone for bandwidths on optical fibers in Switzerland.
With this technology, the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements of customers can be met in the best possible way. This is particularly important for cloud services, so-called hyperscalers such as Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, as well as for data centers. The continuous investments in GAS&COM’s state-of-the-art DWDM network guarantee our customers the best network. The roll-out is now progressing step by step for the entire network and will be completed by 2025.

«We have extensively tested the new cards, which offer 2 ports of 400Gbps 16QAM each with 75GHz channel spacing coherently, and have already been allowed to commission our most important routes with these new cards. We operate a DWDM backbone with over 40 nodes on our own fiber network throughout Switzerland. The busiest routes will now be equipped with the new 800Gbps cards to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth.»
