What does SCION mean?
SCION (Scalability, Control and Isolation On Next-Generation Networks) is an architecture that has been specially developed for secure and critical applications. Unlike the classic Internet, SCION enables:
- Protected domains: Private network areas that effectively exclude attacks from the public internet
- Path control & multipathing: Secure selection and parallel use of multiple data paths for optimal performance and high reliability
- Security by design: Security is integrated from the outset through cryptographically secured path information, authentication, and protection mechanisms such as DDoS defense

What is the Secure Swiss Utility Network (SSUN)?
The SSUN is an association of Swiss infrastructure operators in a shared, protected network. SCION ensures that applications within this network can communicate in isolation and protected – securely, resiliently, and efficiently.
